| As a member of Chackbay FD, me and a couple of other members annually participate in the Jambalaya Cook-off for the Komen Run in Thibodaux, La. We do a 20 gal. Pastalaya just to throw a kink in the system. Yeah, we show up already knowing we will be disqualified for using broken spaghetti instead of rice. BUT, every year we are 1st to sell out and are the crowd favorite. The "Cause" is more important than the "Prize". Besides, it gives a lot of people that are on South Beach or Sugar Buster the option to eat and still follow their diet because we use whole wheat and lean pork/turkey and chicken. Also it gives me the opportunity to put a lil x-tra "Kick" in the seasoning (hey, they can't disqualify us 2ce on the same day).
We also do other smaller charities, but this is the biggest; probably 800-1000 people attend including the runners/walkers.
Maybe we'll see you next year. | |
